Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has built a plant-robot hybrid called Elowan, a robot controlled by a plant. The Elowan is a hybrid system with a wheeled robot at the base and electrodes embedded in its leaves and stems. The electrodes catch signals produced by the plant due to fluctuating levels of light and environmental changes. The signal triggers the robot to move in search of the optimal light source.

Elowan, also described as "cyborg botany", is an attempt to utilize the natural capabilities of plants that can be integrated with gadgets in near future. (via)
