10 Most Innovative Drones

Drones are becoming the most popular unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) that have been used for military purposes, wildlife and atmospheric research, disaster relief, taking aerial photography and videos, and the list goes on and on.

Drones are cost-effective and safe and that's the reason it has been used by govt. and commercial sectors to perform increasingly complex tasks ranging from data collection to pizza delivery.

According to a report, the emerging global market for drone-based business service is worth more than $127B and investment into drone technology continues to grow.

Here is a list of ten most innovative drones with amazing design and technology that will have an impact on the business sector as well as in society. (Image credit: Pixabay)

1)EPFL Lab's Delivery Drone

This innovative drone seems to be inspired by origami and it is designed to deliver parcels. The drone can be easily folded and features a strong and flexible carbon fiber cage that serves as a shield to ensure the safe delivery of package regardless of the terrain. (via)

2)The Powerray Underwater Drone

The smartphone-controlled Powerray Underwater Drone is designed to detect fish using sonar up to 40 meters away. The drone is capable of diving down 30 meters deep to provide an underwater vision for research and to locate fish. (via)

3) The Cleo Drone

This tiny flying device easily fits in your pocket and consists of just two rotors and a camera. The Cleo Drone is designed for taking selfies and the tiny drone can be controlled via a user's smartphone. (via)

4) The O-Drone:

The O-Drone is remotely controlled raft that has two positions - inflated and deflated. It is lightly inflated when not in use to avoid resistance when moves through the water. Once it reaches the person it will further inflate to provide additional buoyancy with additional weight. The O-Drone is a perfect example of sophisticated solutions and implementation of smart technology applicable in personal safety.

5)The Prodrone PD6B-AW-ARM:

The Prodrone PD6B-Aw-Arm is the world's first dual robot arm large-format drone capable of grasping and carrying a payload of up to 10 kg. The weatherproof drone is powered by two 22.2v/16,000 mAh batteries that provide up to 30 minutes of flight per charge with a maximum speed of 60km/h with a maximum operating altitude of 5,000 meters. 6) delftAcopter Drone:

Researchers at the Delft University of Technology have developed a high-tech fixed-wing drone to offer promising agricultural applications. The delftAcopter drone combines the features of helicopters and conventional airplanes. The drone relies on a propeller system to take off vertically like a helicopter and then flies like a plane once it reaches the desired height. The fixed-wing drone is capable of autonomous flight and has the ability to stay connected to drone pilots via a satellite connection that can be controlled from anywhere on the planet. The drone also features a fish-eye stereo camera, internal measurement unit, GPS and obstacle avoidance. (via)

7) The AquaMav Drone

The AquaMav is a prototype drone (maybe a robot) designed by the researchers at Imperial College London that is capable of flying and diving into the water and then re-emerge. The concept of AquaMav is based on two animals - gannets and flying fish. Gannets are large sea birds in North Atlantic that hunt fish by diving into the water from a great height and flying fish can leap out of water. The shape of the drone is probably inspired by flying fish. Unlike a slow-moving underwater robot, the AquaMav can reach a speed of about 30 miles an hour beneath the water and quickly reaches areas of interest to collect samples or record data. (via)

8) Human Flying Drone

This special drone was created by Youtube sensation Casey Neistat, who collaborated with Samsung to create the first-ever human-carrying drone. Neistat uploaded a video on Youtube that demonstrated the human-carrying drone pulling him up straight into the air. The video became viral with more than four million views in the first day.

9) Shapeshifting Drone

The shapeshifting Drone is developed by researchers at the University of Zurich and EPFL and the concept is inspired by a bird that adapts itself to fly through smaller spaces. The drone has four different configurations allowing it to fly into compact areas like around a collapsed building to search and pinpoint any trapped survivors. (via)

10) Drone Sweaters

Last but not least, here is something of a novelty gift for drone owners. San Fransisco based Danielle Baskin has come up with an amazing idea to keep drones warm even in chilling winter. (via)
