Solar-Powered House Made from Hempcrete
The 'Flat House' is a solar-powered abode constructed and designed by London-based Practice Architecture to highlight the capabilities of using sustainable material in larger-scale of house construction.
The eco-friendly house is constructed with prefabricated panels infilled with hemp that was grown on Margent Farm located in rural Cambridgeshire. The prefabricated panel is made from hempcrete which is a mixture of hemp and lime.
The front of the sustainable building is covered in hemp-fiber tiles that are bound together using a sugar-based resin sourced from agricultural waste.
The 'Flat House' is off-grid with power and heating coming from a biomass boiler and solar panels installed on the roof. (via)
