Suicide is the leading cause of mortality in adolescents. It is believed that around 60% of Australians experiencing signs of mental illness do not seek treatment.
Much of this is due to the stigma surrounding mental illness and the belief that mentally ill people cannot manage their own lives. However, there are effective methods for assisting persons who are suicidal or in danger of self-harm.
Volley, an Australian footwear brand, is teaming with the Black Dog Institute to offer a limited-edition sneaker named The Mullet Shoe to help with mental health.
The Mullet Shoe comes with a Velcro removable mullet with hair that's suitable for styling, trimming, or dying as you wish.
The proceeds from the Mullet Shoe sale will be donated to the Black Dog Institute to support the Mullets for Mental Health cause.
The Mullet Mental Health Project, a program of the Black Dog Institute, encourages you to shape and nurture your mullet in September to raise much-needed funds for mental health research.
